Academic position in Artificial Intelligence and Communications UC
The Institute for Mathematical and Computational Engineering (IMC) and the School of Communications at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC), invite applications for one full-time position at the rank of either Assistant or Associate Professor, starting in August 2025.
The successful candidate will have a joint appointment between the IMC and the School of Communications, with the IMC as primary affiliation. We welcome applications from highly qualified candidates with a PhD degree, a track record of cutting-edge research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and a solid commitment to excellence in teaching and supervision.
The explosive growth of AI is transforming the way we communicate with audiences, as well as how we analyze, produce, and distribute media content. Recognizing the transformative potential of AI on the practice of journalism/advertising/filmmaking and communication in general, we are seeking for applicants with:
- a solid background on mathematics, statistics, computer science or related areas,
- experience in interdisciplinary projects related (but not limited) to Generative AI and emerging Content Production tools, Natural Language Processing, and Computational Social Sciences.
The teaching load is three (3) courses per year, distributed over two semesters between the Institute for Mathematical and Computational Engineering and the School of Communications. Command of Spanish is not required to apply; however, the selected candidate is expected to start teaching in Spanish during their second year at UC. Applicants who do not speak Spanish will receive support from the University to learn the language adequately. To support the initial academic career stages, the incorporation of Assistant Professors can benefit from an initial reduction of the teaching load and a starting fund.
The applicant position and salary will be adjusted, according to the policies and regulations at UC, on the applicant starting date. These will be determined according to the previous experience of the candidate.
